Hasan Al-Nashash, Ph.D.

Hasan Al-Nashash is a senior member of the IEEE and a professor and former chair of the department of Electrical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah. He received his PhD in Electronic Engineering in 1988 from the University of Kent in the UK. The main themes of Dr. Al-Nashash's research work are in the areas of neuroengineering with applications to brain and spinal cord injury and biomedical analog microelectronics. He is currently involved in developing noninvasive measurement methods for glucose monitoring in diabetic patients. Furthermore, he designed and developed several electronic instruments to measure various biodynamic parameters. Dr. Al-Nashash has received a number of awards. In addition, he is the author of 90 refereed journal and conference papers, 3 book chapters and 2 issued US patents.

Dr. Al-Nashash is the Middle East and Africa representative on the IEEE-EMBS Administrative Committee. He was involved in establishing several electrical and electronic engineering departments in Jordan, Oman and the UAE where he developed curricula and research laboratories. He has also established biomedical engineering specialization at Yarmouk University in Jordan and the American University of Sharjah in the UAE. He worked closely with several biomedical engineering departments and hospitals at Johns Hopkins University, the American and Medcare Hospitals in Dubai, Khlifa Hospital in Ajman and Jordan University Hospital. Dr. Al-Nashash has also led the initiative to establish the EMBS chapter in the UAE.
