Robotics & Rehabilitation Engineering

Robotics systems, such as the exoskeleton shown to the right, for rehabilitation following trauma (stroke, etc.) are currently being developed as part of the Robotics for NeuroRehabilitation.

The Neuromorphic Vision Engineering team develops circuits and systems that mimic the nervous systems modeled after living systems. The visual system is organized along the path from retina to cortex, and paths that recognize objects along at least two major tracts (what and where), and these pathways are modeled in computational framework first and then reduced to implementation in silicon. This team studies specific model systems, such as modeling the visual cortex and to develop camera and sensors that can be used for retinal prosthesis to eventually repair sight.
